Stellenbosch FC has strengthened its front line with the acquisition of Ashley Cupido from Cape Town Spurs. The deal sees Mervin Boji moving the other way.
The 23-year-old Cupido, a highly sought-after talent, was previously linked to Kaizer Chiefs but ultimately chose Stellenbosch as his preferred destination. His arrival is seen as a direct replacement for Iqraam Rayners, who departed for Mamelodi Sundowns earlier in the transfer window.
In addition to Cupido’s signing, Stellenbosch confirmed the departure of Mervin Boji to Cape Town Spurs on a permanent transfer as part of the overall deal.
Stellenbosch CEO Rob Benadie said: “We are excited to welcome the talented 23-year-old to our ambitious club.
“He is a player who will fit our system well and who we believe has the ability to consistently feature at the top end of the PSL’s goal-scoring charts.”
“Mervin is a local hero who we believe will take this opportunity to get more consistent game-time and realise his full potential.
“He was instrumental in our reserve team winning two DStv Diski Challenge titles, scoring 31 goals in 30 appearances in the competition, and we have no doubt that he will succeed in this new challenge.”
