Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has urged the introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the Betway Premiership following a contentious 2-2 draw with Magesi.
Amakhosi staged a remarkable comeback, with Mduduzi Shabalala netting two late goals (77′, 78′) to salvage a point at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The match was initially dominated by Magesi, who took a 2-0 lead through goals from Wonderboy Makhuba (6′) and Edmore Chirambadare (72′).
Nabi expressed frustration over a potential penalty incident in the second half, where substitute Wandile Duba appeared to be fouled in the box.
The Chiefs boss believes that VAR could have clarified the situation and potentially awarded a penalty to his side. He told SuperSport,
Obviously we are very disappointed, but we have to talk about how the officials are officiating the game.
“We believe it is more than time that VAR comes into this beautiful league. We strongly believe it was a penalty on Duba. Everyone has seen the images.”
Nabi also had raised his concerns around the opening goal of the clash.
“The second goal they scored, it was a free kick for us, but it becomes a free kick for them and gives them their second goal,” he said.
“I don’t want to put pressure on the referees, they are human and they make mistakes. But I urge the body of the league to bring in VAR to help the referees. We feel we are being punished in every game.”
