A moment of freedom for Mpho Padime pleased Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou as the teenager provided a glimpse of why the club are excited about his potential.
Padime was introduced late in Pirates’ 3-0 MTN8 semi-final victory over Sekhukhune United, a result that secured a fifth consecutive final appearance for the defending champions. The young midfielder immediately looked comfortable, showing confidence in possession and helping create the third goal.
Ouaddou was particularly keen for Padime to enjoy the opportunity rather than burden him with tactical demands.
“I said to the boy when he just came on, ‘My boy, it’s 2-0, enjoy your football. I have nothing, just enjoy your football,’” Ouaddou told SuperSport.

The coach admitted that such freedom would not always be possible, particularly in a tight match, but believes young players need opportunities to express themselves when circumstances allow.
“When it’s 0-0 or a draw, I don’t like that. When we’re three or four goals up, I have to integrate myself into the culture of the country sometimes and let them have the freedom,” he said.
Ouaddou’s attention has already turned towards the challenges ahead. Pirates remain involved in the league, MTN8 and Champions League, leaving little room for complacency.
“For me there’s no day off,” he said. “Success doesn’t come like that. You have to plan things.”
