On Sunday, UJ Ladies travel to the Sisa Dukashe Stadium to lock horns with the ever-improving Thunderbirds Ladies, while Saturday’s action sees Durban Ladies meet Sundowns in Pretoria. But first, we have an intriguing midweek encounter between UJ Ladies and Sundowns at 15:00 today.
Wednesday 20 October
UJ Ladies 20/1
Draw 8/1
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 1/33
(15:00)
UJ Ladies and Mamelodi Sundowns are set to lock horns at the Soweto Campus in the only midweek clash of the Hollywoodbets Super League. When these sides met two months ago in Pretoria, coach Jerry Tshabalala’s Masandawana ran out 2-0 winners shortly before conquering their CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
UJ Ladies will make the trip to East London aiming to down Thunderbirds on Sunday after facing an uphill task against Sundowns. The ‘Orange Army’ come off a 2-2 draw at the King Zwelithini Stadium last Wednesday, when Memory Makhanya equalised for Durban Ladies in stoppage time to steal a share of the spoils before suffering a 4-1 defeat to high-flying TUT Ladies four days later.
Sundowns on the other hand, impressed me immensely last week Wednesday after starting 15-year-old Lumka Qhekeka against Tsunami Queens, who announced her arrival in style, scoring a brace before being substituted at half time, while coach Tshabalala also named two other 15-year-old footballers on the bench.
Masandawana went on to convincingly beat First Touch FC (3-1) in Polokwane thanks to Melinda Kgadiete’s brace that put the game to bed following Andisiwe Mgcoyi’s opener. The ladies in Yellow are fully expected to claim maximum points in this encounter despite being without the likes of defender Bambanani Mbane, midfielder Oratile Mokwena and spearhead Kgadiete.
