Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has expressed optimism that Percy Tau will regain his form following his move from Al Ahly to Qatar SC.
Tau, 30, made the switch to the Qatari club in January for a reported R3-million transfer as Al Ahly looked to refresh their attack with new foreign players.
The South African vice-captain was eager for a lucrative move to the Qatari Stars League to regain his form ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Since joining Qatar SC, Tau has started three matches, contributing with three assists. Broos is eager to see how his situation unfolds in the coming weeks.
“I was happy that he left Al Ahly because the last time he came in [for camp]… it’s a good thing for him,” Broos said as quoted by iDiski Times.
“Okay we will see what happens with him there in Qatar, I don’t think it’s such a big difference in the level of Qatar and the Egyptian League. Okay Egypt is better okay, but the important thing is for him to play [regularly].
“It’s something he wasn’t doing for a year, either injured or on the bench, the coach didn’t [start him], so I am happy he changed teams and let’s hope he plays more now.”
Tau has earned 46 caps for Bafana Bafana, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists since making his debut under former coach Shakes Mashaba in October 2015.
