Transfer News: Percy Tau finds new club

South African international Percy Tau has officially transferred from Egyptian giants Al Ahly to Qatar SC. The move follows speculation about Tau’s future after reportedly falling out of favor at Al Ahly, despite having a contract until the end of the season.

Tau arrived in Doha on Friday for medical checks and is expected to be formally unveiled this week. He has signed a six-month contract with the Qatar Stars League club.

His departure from Al Ahly brings to a close a four-year stint that saw him win numerous titles, including two league titles, four Egyptian Super Cups, two domestic cups, two CAF Champions Leagues, and one CAF Super Cup. He contributed 30 goals and 14 assists in 126 appearances.

The move sees Tau join two former Al Ahly teammates, Badr Banoune and Ahmed Abdelkader, at Qatar SC. He will also play alongside former Spain and Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez, and former Raja AC star Ben Malango.

According to Qatari newspaper Al Arab, Qatar SC has included an option to extend Tau’s contract by two years. This extension is contingent on Tau performing well during his initial six-month period.

Tau joins Qatar SC at a challenging time, as they are currently fighting relegation. The team sits 11th in the 12-team league, with 10 points after 12 matches, following a recent 4-1 defeat to league leaders Al-Duhail SC.
