TRANSFER NEWS: CAPE TOWN CITY SIGN MIDFIELDER CARLINHOS FROM PETRO DE LUANDA

Cape Town City have signed Angolan international midfielder Carlinhos from Petro de Luanda on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old’s contract with the Angolan Premier League champions expired on the final day of June leading to him being snapped up by the Citizens. It is the club’s seventh signing ahead of the new season following the arrivals of Fortune Makaringe, Haashim Domingo, Kayden Francis, Elson Ayanda Sithole, Lefa Ashape and Prins Tijueza.

“Cape Town City is pleased to announce that it has agreed to professional terms with Angolan playmaker Carlos do Carmo,” reads the club’s statement.

Carlinhos has 15 caps for the Angolan national team but hasn’t played for Palancas Negras since 2021. Besides Petro, he has also played for GD Interclube – another top-flight side in Angola as well as for Tanzanian giants Young Africans.

He has won five trophies in his career thus far which include two Angolan League titles, one Angolan Cup title, and two Angolan Super Cup titles and will bring plenty of experience to the Mother City outfit.

Carlinhos joins his former Petro teammate Gilberto in the DStv Premiership, who has recently signed for Orlando Pirates.
