Taariq Fielies chose to leave Cape Town City for new challenge

Taariq Fielies has revealed he requested an exit from Cape Town City ahead of AmaZulu switch.

The 31-year-old joined the Citizens from Milano United in 2017 and went on to make close to 200 appearances for the club.

He has since joined Usuthu and has featured seven times this season, scoring one goal.

Fielies said on iDiski Times: “I think every footballer needs different challenges, always wants to test things with different teams.

“I think it came about when I spent a couple of seasons with Cape Town City, it was too long in my comfort zone and I just needed the time for a new challenge and AmaZulu was a good choice for me.”

Fielies added: “To a certain point I did request to leave.

“(But) me and coach Eric (Tinkler) – we still have a good relationship and unfortunately things didn’t go, I would say, sideways, whatever. But we still have a good relationship.”

AmaZulu return from the international break with a DStv Premiership clash with Stellenbosch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Fielies is currently sidelined with injury.
