SuperSport United have signed Rayden de Reuck, the younger brother of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rushine de Reuck, from the amateur side Young Bafana.
Rayden, who spent the past season at Young Bafana, played in the SAFA Western Cape ABC Motsepe League, South Africa’s third-tier league. His older brother, Rushine, has established himself at PSL champions Sundowns, where he has won multiple major trophies in recent years.
The 19-year-old centre-back has joined SuperSport’s DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team for the upcoming season. SuperSport have a history of nurturing young talent, which often leads to fruitful results both for the club and the players.
Notably, players like Shandre Campbell have moved on to prestigious clubs such as Belgian giants Club Brugge after their time with SuperSport.
Rayden, known for his defensive prowess, aims to make a significant impression on Matsatsantsa’s technical team with the hope of earning a promotion to the senior team.
Young Bafana officially announced his transfer with a statement: “Yet another Young Bafana player has been transferred to a professional club. Rayden De Reuck, central defender, with an ABC season at Young Bafana, has made the move from the Cape to the PSL outfit (SuperSport United) in Johannesburg.”
Young Bafana founder Bernd Steinhage expressed his joy at seeing their players secure moves to larger clubs in the PSL. “As we continue to develop the person first, we take great pride in offering our players a platform to make the most out of their footballing careers,” Steinhage stated.
SuperSport have had an active transfer window, strengthening their squad for the new season. Besides Rayden De Reuck, they signed players such as Thakasani Mbanjwa, Keanin Ayer, Pogiso Sanoka, Nyiko Mobbie, Vincent Pule and Brooklyn Poggenpoel.
However, SuperSport’s season has not started as planned. They suffered a 3-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-final at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.
Matsatsantsa now face the challenge of regrouping and addressing their weaknesses before the Betway Premiership commences next month.
