Major League Soccer’s St. Louis City SC announced the departure of head coach Bradley Carnell on Monday. The decision comes after a string of disappointing results for the team this season.
Carnell, a former South African national team player, joined St. Louis City in January 2022 as their first head coach. During his tenure, he achieved a significant accomplishment by leading the team to the 2023 Western Conference Regular Season title. This marked a historic feat for an expansion team.
However, the 2024 season proved more challenging. Despite having talented players like Njabulo Blom (formerly of Kaizer Chiefs) on the roster, the team currently sits in 12th place in the Western Conference table. Citing the team’s recent performance, St. Louis City SC opted for a coaching change.
While Carnell’s future destination remains unknown, his experience and qualifications, including a UEFA B Coaching License, suggest that this may be a temporary setback.
