SABC has announced that they have acquired rights to broadcast the English Premier League this season, starting with the blockbuster clash between Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers on 17 August.
The deal will see the public broadcaster air one live Premier League match every Saturday at 15:00 on SABC 3 and the digital platforms including SABC+ and www.sabcsport.com.
A total of 33 matches will be aired and will include a live studio build-up, latest news and previews.
“The acquisition of the league has always been a strategic direction of the SABC. The English Premier League creates various marketing opportunities for the SABC Sport and other SABC brands. We see this as an opportunity to create a sense of euphoria for South Africans everywhere and we look forward to a long-lasting partnership with the Premier League”, said Keletso Totlhanyo who is SABC’s Head of Sport.
