RULANI MOKWENA REVEAL REASONS FOR JOINING WYDAD

Rulani Mokwena says he decided to join Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club because they ‘chose’ him.

Mokwena made a shock departure from Mamelodi Sundowns despite leading the club to their seventh successive DStv Premiership title last season.

He has since joined Wydad after they showed their interest in snapping up the 37-year-old head coach.

Mokwena has signed a three-year deal with the club to keep him in Morocco until 2027.

When asked why he chose Wydad amid interest from a number of teams, the former Orlando Pirates coach said while addressing the media: “Because they chose me.”

Mokwena added: “They showed so much interest in me, they were on top of my agent, on top of me.

“One wise guy said to me ‘go where you’re loved’ and I feel loved and appreciated by the Wydad fans and that’s why I’m here.

“Of course, who says no to a club like Wydad? It’s impossible. And the offer was also too good to refuse (laughs).

“But I’m happy to be here, I’m very happy to be here.”
