Royal AM down Richards Bay in five-goal thriller

Royal AM beat Richards Bay 3-2 in a Premier Soccer League match at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday in which all five goals came in the first half.

Mxolisi Macuphu broke the deadlock five minutes into the match when he won the ball back off Royal AM defender Simphiwe Mcineka and finished emphatically.

Soon after Macuphu made the assist for Thabo Matlaba who fired past Richards Bay goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane.

Macuphu then got his second in the 34th minute when he volleyed a Khulekani Shezi cross past Mabokgwane.

Soon after Matlaba scored an own goal past his own goalkeeper Hugo Nyame in 36 minutes.

The drama continued in the stoppage time of the first half when Sanele Barns was released by Yamela Mbuthuma and slotted in past Nyame for the fifth goal of the opening stanza.

It was strangely a goalless second half with no team finding the back of the net as Royal AM went two places up the standings to position 12 while Richards Bay remain second from the bottom.
