Ronwen Williams nominated for the Yashin Trophy

Ronwen Williams has been nominated for the Yashin Trophy.

The Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns captain is one of ten goalkeepers nominated for the annual global award.

The award is named after former Soviet Union goalkeeper Lev Yashin, and the winner is selected by former Ballon d’Or winners, since its creation in 2019.

Williams was nominated for his standout performances for both South Africa and the Brazilians.

Other nominees include Diogo Costa (FC Porto), Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint Germain), Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund), Andriy Lunin (Rea Madrid), Mike Maignan (AC Milan), Giorgi Mamardashvili (Valencia), Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa), Unai Simon (Athletic Bilbao), and Yann Sommer (Inter Milan).

Martinez is the 2023 winner while Thibaut Courtois scooped the award in 2022.
