Mamelodi Sundowns extended their unbeaten run to 52 matches following their 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy. The Brazilians will close off their season by hosting Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Richards Bay FC looks set for relegation play-offs, they failed to capitalize on Royal AM’s poor run of form when they were hammered by Cape Town City 3-1, and they are now separated by three points from 14th place Royal AM.
Let’s dive into this weekend’s DStv Premiership previews and predictions:
Saturday, May 25
13/20 Orlando Pirates | Draw 26/10 | SuperSport United 4/1 (15:00)
The Soweto giants failed to overtake Stellies in the second position when they suffered a second consecutive loss in their 1-0 defeat against TS Galaxy and prior to that they were edged by Richards Bay 1-0. They face the difficult task of overcoming SuperSport United who are not an easy side to beat.
The Pretoria side has picked up form following a winless run which stretched to over five matches. They are unbeaten in their past four matches winning two and the other two ending in stalemates. I see this match ending in a draw.
11/10 AmaZulu | Draw 2/1 | Golden Arrows 26/10 (15:00)
The last instalment of the KwaZulu-Natal derby for the season will see Usuthu host the troubled Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium. There is still a glimmer of hope for a top-eight finish. They are currently ninth on the log with 36 points level with Kaizer Chiefs.
Abafana Bes’thende failed to secure maximum points when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cape Town Spurs which stretched their winless run to eight matches. They will be aiming for a win to finish the season on a high note. AmaZulu to edge Arrows.
17/10 Chippa United | Draw 2/1 | Sekhukhune United 15/10 (15:00)
The Chilli Boys recently broke their four-match losing run when they held Golden Arrows to a 1-1 draw and that was followed by a goalless draw against Royal AM. They will be looking to take advantage of Sekhukhune’s recent poor run.
Babina Noko are yet to secure a win in their past five matches which has seen them drop to the sixth position. They will be looking to bounce back from a 1-0 loss against AmaZulu. Both these teams are experiencing a rough patch and it is hard to see a win in this match. This match will end in a draw.
3/1 Cape Town Spurs | Draw 22/10 | Kaizer Chiefs 17/20 (15:00)
The Urban Warriors will be looking to close off their DStv Premiership chapter on a positive note after being relegated in their first season on the top flight. The Cape Town side has yet to taste defeat in their past three games and will be looking to spoil Amakhosi’s top-eight finish.
Cavin Johnson’s side had an underwhelming 2023/2024 season, they lost 11 matches and played nine draws and nine wins. A victory in this match will guarantee a top-eight finish for them.
22/10 Polokwane City | Draw 2/1 | TS Galaxy 12/10 (15:00)
Rise and Shine managed to hold Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw when they visited them at FNB Stadium. They have managed to avoid defeat in their last four matches and will be looking to end the season with a win. They face the daunting task of defeating the Mpumalanga side who have their eyes set on the top-four finish.
Sead Ramovic’s side is heading to this match highly motivated following their resounding 1-0 win against Orlando Pirates and will be looking to build from that. Sphiwe Mahlangu, Mpho Mvelase and Lehlogonolo Mojela have had an impressive season and will be looking for a positive ending. Galaxy to win.
5/2 Richards Bay | Draw 15/10 | Stellenbosch 1/1 (15:00)
The Natal Rich Boyz had a lacklustre season which saw them lying at the bottom of the log for most of the season despite appointing Vusimuzi Vilakazi to replace Kaitano Tembo following a series of bad results. They look set to defend their spot in the relegation playoffs. They face a wounded Western Cape side who will be out for redemption following two straight losses.
The Wine Landers will partake in continental football for the first-time next season following a stellar performance. They are currently second on the log and are expected to come out strong for a win to ensure that they retain their spot in the CAF Champions League. Easy win for Stellenbosch.
1/3 Mamelodi Sundowns | Draw 33/10 | Cape Town City 15/2 (15:00)
The champions-elect will close off their history-making season by hosting the Cape Town side at their home ground which is expected to be fully packed. They will face TS Galaxy on Tuesday night before they head into this match in a bid to stretch their unbeaten run which has gone to over 50 matches.
The Citizens outclassed Richards Bay FC in their last match when they thrashed them 3-1, they will be looking to spoil Masandawana’s record-breaking season by handing them their first loss. The Brazilians are without a doubt the stronger side in this clash and it is hard to see them losing this match. Sundowns to win.
13/10 Moroka Swallows | Draw 2/1 | Royal AM 2/1
Musa Nyatama’s side will battle fellow strugglers Royal AM in a battle for the 13th spot. They will be aiming to bounce back from a 2-0 deficit suffered against SuperSport United. Swallows had a difficult season on and off the pitch and will be looking to regroup and have a positive start next season.
Thwihli Thwahla is facing a must-win situation to avoid dropping to the 15th spot should Richards Bay manage to defeat Stellies. They are separated by three points and with the way Richards Bay has been playing lately, they are capable of causing an upset. Moroka Swallows to edge Royal AM.
