Orlando Pirates has been dealt a major blow as defender Olisa Ndah has suffered an injury that will see him out of action for the remainder of the year.
Ndah sustained a tibia fracture during a match against Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership at Orlando Stadium.
The Nigerian defender, who has been an instrumental figure for the team under coach Jose Riveiro, played a pivotal role in helping Pirates secure a place in the Caf Champions League group stages and reach the MTN8 final.
Although Pirates triumphed 3-1 over Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 final, Ndah was absent from the match due to this injury.
His absence is a big blow to the Sea Robbers as they continue to navigate through a busy and competitive season.
“The Buccaneers will be without key defender Olisa Ndah, who faces an extended period on the sidelines,” the statement said.
“The Nigerian international who missed out on playing the MTN8 final after suffering an injury in the league match against Polokwane City, is expected to be out on the sidelines for a lengthy spell.
“The Bucs medical department has confirmed that the 26-year-old has suffered a tibia fracture. Due to the location and nature of the injury; the decision on surgery is not straightforward but based on this type of injury, Ndah has been ruled out for the rest of the year.”
Other players who are out due to injury at the Buccaneers are Thalente Mbatha, Bandile Shandu, Tapelo Xoki, Goodman Mosele, Zakhele Lepasa, Thabiso Lebitso, Sandile Mthethwa, and Ethan Visagie.
Pirates will host newly promoted side Magesi FC at Orlando Stadium on Saturday in their Carling Black Label Cup opener.
