Nasreddine Nabi frustrated with referee decisions following loss to Polokwane City

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi did not hold back his frustration after his side’s 2-0 loss to Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership on Sunday.

The match, played at Peter Mokaba Stadium, saw Chiefs dominate possession and create numerous chances but fail to convert, while Polokwane City capitalised on limited opportunities to secure the win.

Nabi’s post-match comments centred on his displeasure with referee Eugene Mdluli’s decisions, which he felt had significantly impacted the game.

Chiefs were denied two penalty appeals, and Nabi was particularly incensed by a challenge on Bradley Cross that he believed warranted a red card.

Speaking to reporters, Nabi said, “I respect referees because without them, there is no football. But today, the officiating was unacceptable. We should have had two penalties, and my left-back Cross was taken out with no red card given.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve faced such decisions, and it’s very frustrating.”

The incident involving Cross was particularly concerning for Nabi, who revealed that the defender could be sidelined for up to two months due to the tackle. “Look at the action with Cross; he may be out for two months. It is unacceptable.

“Referees must protect players; it’s their first rule from FIFA,” he added.

Nabi also stressed that he has no issue with losing when the performance warrants it but cannot accept defeats influenced by officiating. “If I lose because of my mistakes, that’s football. But losing because of the referees is not right.

“We deserve respect as much as we give it,” he stated.

The defeat leaves Chiefs in a precarious position as they aim to bounce back in their next fixture, but the injury to Cross and lingering frustration over refereeing decisions could pose further challenges.
