MTN8 Semi-Finals, Second leg Preview

The second Soweto Derby of the season will take centre stage in the second-leg of the MTN8 semi-finals

Our tipsters were on the money last weekend with their MTN8 tips, with Jesse Nagel correctly predicting Orlando Pirates to beat Kaizer Chiefs and Chad Nagel tipping Bloem Celtic to hold SuperSport to a draw – the double winning at 7/1. This week our Editor will be aiming to give you another winning double from the second leg of the MTN8 semi-finals.

Bloemfontein Celtic 14/10

Draw 5/2

SuperSport United 37/20

(15:00)

Bloemfontein Celtic will be looking to take another step towards their first top eight title since 2005 this weekend, but that’ll be easier said than done against SuperSport United, who are aiming to lift the MTN8 trophy for a record third time. With all still to play for after a 1-1 draw where Ghampani Lungu cancelled out Ndumiso Mabena’s early goal in the first leg, the game promises to be a tense encounter. These sides have drawn each of their last three meetings, but come Saturday, we’ll finally get a winner. After a positive display at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, John Maduka’s charges will head into Saturday’s clash confident of upsetting the cup holders at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium, where Kaitano Tembo’s men haven’t won since 2012. I’m expecting another tight encounter between these sides, but this time I’m backing Siwelele to win.

Kaizer Chiefs 13/10

Draw 23/10

Orlando Pirates 43/20

(15:00)

Orlando Pirates are overwhelming favourites to reach the MTN8 final after they humiliated Kaizer Chiefs last weekend, making it a miserable first Soweto derby for Gavin Hunt. Josef Zinnbauer’s new-look side hold a 3-0 advantage coming into the second leg thanks to goals from Zakhele Lepasa, Vincent Pule and Thembinkosi Lorch. The Buccaneers will be looking to continue from where they left off at Orlando Stadium and pile further misery on their rivals. For the Amakhosi, a comeback victory would probably be too big of an ask, so, Hunt must, at the very least, restore some pride. Reeve Frosler and Eric Mathoho should return to the side which will be a huge boost, however, the Glamour Boys will once again be without their most important player: Samir Nurkovic. I’ll still be surprised if it’s as one-sided as the first leg, but I’m predicting another victory for the Bucs, who will be without Zinnbauer due to personal reasons.
