Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has placed priority on attaining results rather than playing entertaining football after the victory over Black Leopards.

Erick Mathoho scored Amakhosi’s winner for the second time in as many games when the towering centre-back headed home a George Maluleka corner in the 12th minute as Chiefs emerged 1-0 victors at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Chiefs’ fans appeared to be frustrated with the lack of goals on display, but Middendorp would not be pressured in to sacrificing results for entertaining football.

“After our last game, we had time to reflect on our defensive work. We have done much better defensively,” Middendorp told Supersport TV.

“Of course with the ball possession we were a little bit more clever, smart. But I think a fully deserved win.

“It’s not about entertaining at the moment. We are looking for results. If we take the entertainment as our first priority, that is not the way.

Daniel Akpeyi started in the Glamour Boys’ goal in place of Bruce Bvuma, whom Middendorp confirmed had suffered an injury in the warm-up.

“We had to change today. There was a small issue with Bruce in the warm-up. But okay Daniel took over and did a good job,” said the German tactician.

“We have heavy games coming against Supersport and Cape Town. But at the moment we are happy. We have six points and are in a good position.”
