SEKHUKHUNE UNITED SIGNS FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS DEFENDER NJABULO NGCOBO

Highly-rated defender Njabulo Ngcobo has ended a disappointing spell at Kaizer Chiefs by signing for Sekhukhune United.

Much was expected of Ngcobo at Chiefs when he joined from Swallows in July, 2021 after having just won the Dstv Premiership Defender of the Season award with the Birds.

However, he failed to make much of an impression. Some argue that he wasn’t given a fair chance, while others believe his performances were not up to scratch.

Ngcobo, who can play either at centre-back or as a deep-lying defensive midfielder, made 45 appearances for Chiefs over three seasons and started only nine times last campaign.

Joseph Mphaga also joins Babina Noko from Limpopo side after impressing in the ABC Motsepe League with Highlands Park. Sekhukhune have also signed Thabang Monare, Lloyd Kazapua, Vuyo Letlapa, Lindokuhle Mtshali, Njabulo Ngcobo, Andy Boyeli, Kenneth Langa, Keletso Makgalwa and Relebohile Mokhuoane.

This, after parting ways with Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Collins Makgaka, Lebohang Mabotja, Ntokozo Mtsweni, Thamsanqa Masiya, Rally Bwalya, Maloisane Mokhele, Tashreeq Morris, Michael Sarpong, Tshepo Rikhotso, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Edwin Gyimah.

“Sekhukhune United are delighted to announce the signing of defender Njabulo Ngcobo and winger Joseph Mphaga. Welcome to the Babina Noko Family,” the club announced.

Sekhukhune have a new coach at the helm in the form of coach Peter Hyballa, who comes with some pedigree – having been assistant coach at Bayer Leverkusen between 2014 and 2016.

Sekhukhune acheived a fourth-placed finish last season which has guaranteed them CAF Confederation Cup football for the upcoming season.
