Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove has provided a glimpse into the team’s rigorous pre-season preparations during their training camp in Turkey.
Last week, Chiefs departed South Africa for a pre-season stint in Turkey, where they began their preparations under the guidance of new head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Dove, the Mozambique national team captain, spoke to the club’s media on Friday about the demanding nature of their training.
“It’s not easy, especially for those who have just returned from holiday,” Dove admitted. “But each day we’re improving, and I’m optimistic that we’ll be ready to hit the ground running when the season begins.”
The team’s training schedule has been particularly demanding. Dove recounted, “Yesterday, we had three sessions: an early morning run in the mountains, a gym workout, and an afternoon field session.
“Despite the tough regimen, the overall atmosphere has been positive. It’s energising to see the players singing and running in the morning; it reflects the good mood at the camp.”
Dove also highlighted the focus on integrating the new technical team’s tactics and philosophy. “We’re in a situation where football is our sole focus. We’re working on all the tactical and technical aspects needed for the season.
“Every coach has their own approach, and it’s crucial for us as players to adapt and implement their ideas effectively on the pitch,” Dove explained.
Chiefs will play several friendly matches in Turkey before heading back to South Africa. Their return will see them host Tanzanian champions Young Africans in the Toyota Cup.
Dove is enthusiastic about these upcoming fixtures, stating, “It’s great to be in a setting where we can face high-quality teams in friendly matches. These games will be a valuable test for us to gauge our readiness and team cohesion.”
As Chiefs continue their pre-season journey, they are clearly committed to embracing the challenges and opportunities presented under their new coach.
