Johnson: The more exposure the better

Cavin Johnson says it wouldn’t make sense for Kobamelo Kodisang to return to South Africa at this stage of his career.

The 22-year-old striker is currently contracted to Portuguese side Braga B, but will spend next season on loan at Desportivo de Chaves after a largely inactive 2021/22 campaign.
He made the switch to Europe from Bidvest Wits in 2019, having also spent time with AD Sanjoanense on loan.
Johnson coached Kodisang at Platinum Stars in 2017, and after reported interest in his former player from Kaizer Chiefs this past week, the experienced mentor is pleased a move didn’t materialise.
Johnson told the Sowetan: “As I said, when you are in Europe, try and stay there for as long as you can to get better exposure and take your game to the next level. So he has done that and good luck to him.

“But I haven’t spoken to him and the club that has given him the loan is probably looking at playing him more often. So he will get more exposure and they have to play him. That’s why they probably took him and I wish him luck for that.”
Johnson added: “My advice to Kodisang is that they have given him another lease of life in Europe and he has made a mark… now it’s his time.

“I mean, he is not getting younger… it’s time to make his mark and make sure that everybody sees the potential that he has and get into the Bafana Bafana team if he can.”
