Sunday 01 September
6/10 Fiorentina | Draw 26/10 | Monza 46/10 (18:30)
Fiorentina welcomes Monza to the Stadio Artemio Franchi where both teams will want maximum points after a poor start to the new Serie A season. The Violets have yet to reach their lofty standards after two draws from their opening two fixtures while Monza looks to put the loss to Genoa behind them as they go in search of their first victory of the season. Fiorentina won home and away against Monza last season and they get this one over the line given they have the home-ground advantage to fuel their performance on the day. Back the home win.
11/10 Genoa | Draw 37/20 | Verona 26/10 (18:30)
Genoa’s victory against Monza last time out maintains their unbeaten record for the new campaign after the 2-2 draw against current champions Inter Milan on the opening day. Winning both fixtures home and away last season against Verona will inspire Alberto Gilardino’s men to go out and put in a performance worthy of earning all three points. Verona on the other hand, is coming off a defeat and will want to rectify their mistakes with the hopes of returning to winning ways. BTTS and Genoa win.
9/10 Juventus | Draw 21/10 | Roma 31/10 (20:45)
This fixture will grab all the attention this weekend as two giants of Italian football go head-to-head for the first time this season. Juventus have started a new era under the guidance of Thiago Motta, and after two games played maintain a 100 percent record. Motta is known for his expansive football and the quality at his disposal, a third victory could be a reality if Roma are not prepared. Roma has slowly fallen off the pace considering how well they played when club legend Daniele De Rossi first took over. A draw and a loss in the first two games of the season is not the start De Rossi would have hoped for but it is still early days and with the quality arrivals coming this season, I can see Roma reaching their best form soon. BTTS and Juventus for the home victory.
17/20 Udinese | Draw 22/10 | Como 33/10 (20:45)
Udinese and new boys Como close off gameweek 3 as they set to meet at the Friuli Stadium for the first time since 2003. The Little Zebras as they are known in English, have begun their 2024/25 season unbeaten and will be full of confidence, especially performing in front of their home fans. Como will have work to do in getting up to speed and reaching the standards of playing in the topflight and Spanish mentor Cesc Fabregas will know the importance of reaching these standards early on. Finding a style of play and gaining confidence in what they do will do them a world of good, especially after a draw and a defeat across the previous two fixtures. Back the home win here.
