Ismael Toure seeks European move from Stellenbosch FC

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has disclosed that defender Ismael Toure has requested a transfer to Europe, as he aims to take his career to the next level.

Toure, who was a standout centre-back in the domestic league last season, did not participate in Stellenbosch’s two-legged CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round against Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspur. Despite their 8-0 aggregate victory, Toure’s absence was notable.

Interest in the Ivorian has reportedly come from Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United, and Orlando Pirates, though Barker confirmed that no formal offers had been received yet.

Following Stellenbosch’s 5-0 win in the second leg on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Barker addressed Toure’s situation, stating, “Toure, at this stage, is a difficult one. Hopefully, the European window closes at the end of August. He has ambitions, that’s where he desperately wants to go.”

Barker added that the club would have to manage the situation once the transfer window closed, saying, “At this stage, nothing has materialised, and if the window does close, he will have to get on with things.

“We didn’t want to add any further stress at this stage.” He also mentioned, “By this time next week, we should have a clear indication of the way forward.”

Looking ahead, Stellenbosch FC will face AS Vita in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup, with the first leg scheduled for September 13 at home and the second leg on September 20 away.

Barker acknowledged the challenge posed by the Congo-based team, saying, “They are one of the giants on the continent and will present a different challenge for us.”

Stellenbosch’s victory was secured by goals from Lehlohonolo Mojela, Langelihle Phili, Andre de Jong, Omega Mdaka, and Mervin Boji.

Barker noted the need for careful preparation, stating, “They are a really strong team physically, and their style of play on astro turf will be something new for us.”
