AmaZulu has secured the future of one of their key defenders, with Riaan Hanamub signing a new three-year contract.
The Namibian international had been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, but AmaZulu successfully fended off interest from the Soweto giants.
Hanamub joined AmaZulu from Chippa United in 2022 and has quickly established himself as a key player for the club. His consistent performances in the Premier Soccer League and for Namibia have made him a sought-after defender.
AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu expressed his delight at Hanamub’s decision to extend his stay at the club. During an interview with SABC Sport, the president said,
“Yes, he has signed a new contract with us, which is for a further three-years,”.
Riaan Hanamub’s new three-year deal with AmaZulu means he will remain at the club until at least June 2027. This extension is likely to ward off any potential suitors as they will have to face a significant financial hurdle.
Kaizer Chiefs had expressed interest in Hanamub as a defensive reinforcement, but their pursuit of Stellenbosch FC’s Fawaaz Basadien appears to have taken priority. According to AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu, Chiefs never made an official approach for Hanamub.
“We never received an offer in writing. This contract [for Hanamub] was something already in the pipeline, yes,”
AmaZulu kick off their Betway Premiership campaign on 14 September when they travel to face Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
