German Bundesliga: Gameweek 2 Preview

Round one of the German Bundesliga proved to be successful with my featured treble arriving at 36/10! Looking at this weekend’s fixtures, there is money to be made and I’m feeling confident that I can keep my winning streak alive! Let’s get to it.

Friday 23 August

Cologne 52/10

Draw 39/10

Borussia Dortmund 9/20

(20:30)

Cologne’s return to the top flight ended in a hard-fought 2-1 defeat at Wolfsburg last weekend and the newcomers will face an even tougher task on Friday evening with last season’s runners-up coming to town. Dortmund exploded to the top of the table with a massive 5-1 victory over Augsburg. BVB have the momentum with them and they will be looking to make it two from two. It won’t be a walk in the park, but the black and yellow army are tipped to bag all three points.

Hoffenheim 17/20

Draw 29/10

Werder Bremen 26/10

(15:30)

Both Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen started the new campaign on the back foot with the latter being humiliated 3-1 on home soil against Fortuna Dusseldorf before Hoffenheim went down 1-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt. The last five meetings have produced Under 2.5 Goals but with both sides suffering defeats in the opening round, we might be in for an attacking game of football. Nevertheless, I’m backing Hoffenheim to edge the win.

Paderborn 29/20

Draw 26/10

Freiburg 33/20

(15:30)

Paderborn put up a respectable fight against Bayer Leverkusen despite going down 3-2 last time out. Home advantage might offer them more this weekend but Freiburg will also be buzzing after their 3-0 drubbing of Mainz in the opening round. Goals are on the menu, and with the last five meetings seeing both sides find the back of the net, it looks good on the betting front. Both Teams to Score – Yes – is tipped at 5/10.

Dusseldorf 31/10

Draw 31/10

Bayer Leverkusen 7/10

(15:30)

I think most football fans would have been impressed by Dusseldorf’s win last weekend and it would have given their fans hope for a promising season to come. Bayer Leverkusen worked hard for their 3-2 victory over newcomers Paderborn. However, they showed a lot of signs of weak areas to exploit, something Dusseldorf will be looking to take advantage of. Take the hosts on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 21/20.

Augsburg 12/10

Draw 47/10

Union Berlin 23/10

(15:30)

Out of all 18 top flight Bundesliga teams, Augsburg and Union Berlin got their respective campaigns off to the worst possible starts. The latter kick-started their debut Bundesliga season with a 4-0 thumping on home soil courtesy of Leipzig. Augsburg were also humiliated with Dortmund running circles around them and bagging a 5-1 win. Although both teams faced much stronger opponents last time out, it’s difficult to say whether or not they have goals in them. I’m sure they do but after last weekend, I’m expecting both sides to play it safer. Get on the Totals – Under 2.5 Goals – market at 17/20.

Mainz 2/1

Draw 49/20

Monchengladbach 5/4

(15:30)

I, for one, expected much more from Mainz last weekend but they looked lost as Freiburg smoked them 3-0. Monchengladbach played to the first goalless draw of the season – sharing the spoils with Schalke – and will be desperate to get their first goal and win on Saturday afternoon. The Borussians won both meetings last term, scoring five goals without shipping any. The away win is on the cards.

Schalke 13/2

Draw 4/1

Bayern Munich 7/20

(18:30)

Schalke earned a hard-fought goalless draw at Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend and face another tough challenge with Bayern Munich coming to town. The Bavarians struggled in their opening match as they had to come from 2-1 down against Hertha Berlin to earn a 2-2 draw. It might have been a slight hiccup and it might have not but I’m backing them to come good this weekend. Take Bayern Munich on the (-1) Handicap at 19/20.

Leipzig 5/10

Draw 7/2

Eintracht Frankfurt 9/2

(15:30)

Leipzig started the 2019/20 season like a house on fire, giving newly-promoted Union Berlin a 4-0 lesson on their own home ground. Eintracht Frankfurt grinded out a well-deserved 1-0 home win over Hoffenheim and will have to work even harder on Sunday afternoon if they are to come away with a point, let alone a win. Both meetings ended in a draw last term but I’m backing home advantage to separate them this time around. The Red Bulls are tipped to claim a narrow win at 5/10.

Hertha Berlin 27/20

Draw 5/2

Wolfsburg 37/20

(18:00)

Hertha Berlin were so close but so far away from coming home with maximum points at Bayern Munich last weekend. In the end, they had to settle for a 2-2 draw but it’s a point that will give the team loads of confidence coming into round two. Wolfsburg huffed and puffed and eventually blew Cologne down with a 2-1 victory last time out. Nonetheless, they are a team that usually struggle to get going on the road. The Old Lady offers excellent value to claim their first home win of the season.
