Frank Onyeka: It’s always an honour to represent my country

Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka says it’s an honour to represent Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 25-year-old midfielder is a part of the Super Eagles squad that will compete for honours in the Ivory Coast from the 13th of January to 11 February 12 2024.

He could miss as many as six games for the Bees if Nigeria make it all the way to the final.

Speaking ahead of the competition, Onyeka said that representing his country is something he is driven to do.

He said on BBC Sport Africa: “I’ll always want to represent my country on the big stage.

“It’s an honour to wear the green and white shirt, so it’s something that I have to do.

“I was a boy playing in the streets of Nigeria and now I’m representing the Super Eagles at AFCON.”

Onyeka, who was also part of the Nigeria squad that made it to the Round of 16 at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, added that he has the full support of Bees head coach Thomas Frank.

“He’s happy for me to represent my country on this big stage. I’m really happy that he’s also my supportive coach, letting his players go off to AFCON,” he said.
