Ertugral: Quality players only get you so far

Former Kaizer Chief and Ajax Cape Town head coach Muhsin Ertugral has no doubts that Mamelodi Sundowns will continue to dominate the DStv Premiership next season.

The Brazilians stormed to their fifth consecutive South African top-flight success this past campaign.
They also claimed the MTN8, Nedbank Cup while coming up short once again in the CAF Champions League.
But having resisted the temptation to make wholesale changes to their squad, by just signing Sipho Mbule and Ronwen Williams, Ertugral says Downs can go one better and made a cleansweep of trophies on offer.
Ertugral told IOL: “Having the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper on their side can’t be wrong. So obviously they’ve made the right choices when it comes to that.

“He’s a great goalkeeper, adding to Sundowns’ possibility of winning the league and challenging for the Champions League title. So, it’s important to have quality players.”
Ertugral added though that it was equally important to have kept their trio of coaches in Manqoba Mngqithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela.
“It’s primarily important to have quality players. But it’s not only players that make the team,” he explained.
“When you look at PSG or other important teams in the world, they don’t make it although they have the best players.

“So you don’t only need the best players, but also the best technical team, surroundings and environment to be a winning team on the field.

“It’s not only the transfer policy that makes a winning team. Getting your technicalities right is equally important in making a winning team.”
