Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says the club need more experience in the squad if they are to go up a notch and go back to being regular top-four finishers.
Having already secured Fortune Makaringe and reportedly in the process of signing Kamohelo Mokotjo ahead of the new season, City have already shown their intent in bringing in more seasoned campaigners.
City finished fifth in the recently concluded season, having placed second and fourth in the previous two seasons and Tinkler admitted that they took a risk by perhaps giving too many opportunities to younger players.
“As I mentioned last season, we consider ourselves a top-four club; that’s our goal,” Tinkler stated during a CAF A Licence graduation ceremony, where he was also awarded this badge, at Safa House in Nasrec last Friday.
“In the past season, we took a bit of a gamble by integrating too many youngsters into the team. Over the last three seasons, we lost some experienced players to other clubs and didn’t look to the market for mature replacements,” Tinkler explained.
“This was a discussion we had some time ago, aiming to ensure that we have greater depth in our squad for the upcoming season.”
