DStv Premiership preview

The DStv Premiership continues to heat up, this past weekend Lamontville Golden Arrows shocked Kaizer Chiefs to a 2-1 victory and are continuing to close the gap between them and log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who are currently on 24 points while Abafana Bes’thende are on 20 points. SuperSport United who are currently third on the log are breathing heavily down on Arrows neck, they are currently on 19 points and are one of the teams to look out for in the title race. Meanwhile at the bottom of the log, we look to see if Cape Town Spurs can turn things around and start collecting points.

8/10 Cape Town City | Draw 22/10 | Chippa United 15/4

Fourth place Cape Town City will be looking for their fourth consecutive league win when they clash against Chippa United. They are currently on 16 points and are eager to close the gap and challenge for the league title. Eric Tinkler’s men demolished Richards Bay FC 3-1 in their last match with their star striker Khanyisa Mayo scoring and also providing an assist. Meanwhile the Chilli boys have also not tasted defeat in their past four league matches, they have won two and the other two ended in draws. Both sides are expected to come out strong in this match to be able to secure a win. The last meeting between the two ended in a 1-1. I see Cape Town City winning this one.

7/10 Orlando Pirates | Draw 5/2 | Sekhukhune United 4/1

The last time that these two-team met, Pirates demolished Sekhukhune 5-0 in the MTN 8 quarterfinals which the Bucs eventually won. This is a grudge match for Sekhukhune, they will be looking to avenge themselves and also avoid back-to-back defeats at the hands of Pirates. Brandon Truter’s men are currently 11th on the log and have lost 3 out of their last four league matches with the other clash ending in a goalless draw against Polokwane City. The team is desperate to turn things around and start collecting points and book a spot in the top eight. Ezimnyama ngenkani are currently on 9 points with 7 games. A win is vital for them to be able to move away from the relegation zone. Coach Jose Riveiro will need to rally his troops and ensure that they go all out to be able to secure a win at home with their fans behind them. Pirates may be too strong for Sekhukhune; I see them bagging all three points.

15/4 Royal AM | Draw 22/10 | Lamontville Golden Arrows 8/10

This is a must-watch KwaZulu-Natal derby. Royal AM are coming to this match at the back of three consecutive matches in the league. They are currently number 14 on the log and it is not a spot to be comfortable on as it is too close to the relegation zone. They are desperate to turn things around and start bagging points that will see them climbing the table. A win against Arrows is easier said than done. John Maduka’s men will need to pull out all the stops to be able to secure a victory. Golden Arrows have had a fantastic start to the season, they are currently number 2 on the log having won 6 out of their 9 league games, they have played two draws and lost once. They are the stronger side in this clash and are expected to win to be able to close the gap between them and Mamelodi Sundowns. Mabhuti Khanyeza’s man are heading to this match at the back of a resounding 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs. I see Golden Arrows winning thus clash.

9/10 Stellenbosch FC | Draw 22/10 | Richards Bay 3/1

Stellies will be looking to build from their 3-0 win against TS Galaxy when they face the Natal Rich Boyz. They have had a rocky start to the season having lost five out of nine of their league matches. Coach Steve Barker needs to dig deep and find a winning formula for his team as they are currently 12th on the log. Kaitano Tembo’s men are currently second from the bottom of the log with six points. They are heading to this match coming from two back-to-back league losses and have only secured one point out of their past four matches. This match will end in a draw.

7/1 AmaZulu | Draw 7/2 | Mamelodi Sundowns 7/20

Ninth placed AmaZulu will be looking to hand Mamelodi Sundowns they first league defeat when they clash at King Zwelithini Stadium. A win for Usuthu will move them to the top half of the league table. They have played six draws, won 2 and lost 2 out of the 10 league games that they have played. A win against Sundowns will not be easy to come by, however, Pablo Franco’s men will have to come out hard in this match. Amasandawana will be looking to extend the gap between them and second place Golden Arrows. They have won all eight of their opening fixtures. A win in this match will see them topping the table with 27 points. My money is on Sundowns to win.

3/10 Kaizer Chiefs | Draw 7/2 | Cape Town Spurs 10/1

Kaizer Chiefs will be aiming to bounce back to their winning ways after suffering 2-1 defeats against Golden Arrows in what was Cavin Johnson’s first match as the Head Coach of the club. Chiefs had a great showing in this match, but they failed to convert their chances into goals. It will be interesting to see if they can come with solutions to their past mistakes and score winning goals. Chiefs is heading to this match in the back of two consecutive losses. Cape Town Spurs are still in search of their first victory having lost all of their eight opening fixtures and are yet to collect a single point. Newly appointed head coach Sean Connor who replaced Shaun Bartlett is expected to turn things around and start collecting points. I see this clash ending in a draw.

14/10 Moroka Swallows | Draw 2/1 | TS Galaxy 2/1

Steve Komphela’s side are currently sixth on the log with 14 points. They are coming to this match highly motivated as they have not tasted defeat in their past three league matches, having won two and another match ending in a draw. They will be looking to continue with their winning ways in order to be counted amongst the teams that are challenging for the league title. TS Galaxy on the other hand, are currently positioned eighth on the log with 12 points. They defeated Sekhukhune United 2-0 in their last league match with Kamogelo Sebelebele and Samir Nurkovic scoring the goals for the Rockets. I see Moroka Swallows winning this match.

15/10 Polokwane City | Draw 21/10 | SuperSport United 18/10

Fifth placed Polokwane City are currently on 15 points and have not tasted defeat in their previous six matches. They will be looking to shock SuperSport United again as they recently handed them a 4-1 defeat in the Carling Knockout Cup opening round of fixtures. Meanwhile SuperSport United will be looking to avenge the 4-1 defeat, they are expected to fight tooth and nail to get a victory in this match. They are desperate for a win to be able to tighten the gap between them, second placed Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns who are currently at the top of the log table. Both teams are evenly matched, this clash will end in a draw.
