TS Galaxy defender Macbeth Mahlangu has been called up to the South Africa Under-23 Olympic squad.
It is a late call-up for the 19-year-old defender following the withdrawal of five players for ‘various medical reasons’.
Mahlangu was excellent for the Rockets as the club finished in ninth in the recently completed DStv Premiership campaign.
Galaxy head coach Owen da Gama said on Kick Off he was delighted for talented young player.
He said: “I’m very proud of Macbeth Mahlangu, I’m [also] proud of the chairman [Tim Sukazi] who went and saw him at a tournament, identified him, brought him straight to the PSL.
“He’s got speed he’s good in the air. In one on one duels, he wins 99% of them. And he can pass with both left and right, he can pass. So what more do you want from a player?
“I foresee a big future for this boy, I foresee him going very, very far. even going to play overseas one day. As long as he just keeps his head level, he works hard, and he does the same things that he was doing this year.”
