CAVIN JOHNSON TO GIVE RISING STAR MFUNDO VILAKAZI MORE GAMETIME

In a bid to secure their place in the top eight, Kaizer Chiefs’ interim coach, Cavin Johnson, is strategizing for the remaining games of the season.

Johnson is hinting at increased opportunities for young talent Mfundo Vilakazi after their recent 1-1 draw against AmaZulu FC in the DStv Premiership.

Despite an early goal from Chiefs’ Ashley Du Preez, AmaZulu’s Victor Letsoalo levelled the score just before half-time, leading to a shared outcome after 90 minutes.

Reflecting on the match, Johnson emphasized missed opportunities and defensive lapses. “When you consider the game, the standout performer was our goalkeeper, Veli Mothwa. It underscores our dominance in possession,” Johnson remarked in the post-match conference.

He continued, “Although we didn’t start as strongly as desired, our counterattacks should have yielded more goals. Unfortunately, a defensive error led to AmaZulu’s equalizer.”

Johnson highlighted refereeing decisions that didn’t go their way, lamenting a potential penalty that wasn’t awarded.

Despite the frustrations, he commended the team’s effort and resilience, especially singling out missed chances towards the end.

Looking ahead, Johnson expressed optimism about Vilakazi’s contribution, hinting at more playing time for the 18-year-old prodigy. “We need to capitalize on opportunities and stay composed in front of goal.

“Vilakazi’s passion for the game is evident, and he’ll be given more opportunities,” Johnson affirmed.

With crucial matches ahead, including a clash with Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on May 18, Chiefs are gearing up for a decisive push to secure their spot in the top echelons of the league.
