Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Brandon Petersen, has shared his experience of working with the club’s new goalkeeper coach, Ilyes Mzoughi describing him as a dynamic and energetic person who wants the best out of his players.
Mzoughi became part of the Chiefs’ coaching setup ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season as part of Nasreddine Nabi’s technical team.
He experienced an underwhelming start at Amakhosi with the team only managing to keep two clean sheets in 14 matches across all competitions. This has forced the team to regularly rotate their three goalkeepers with Bruce Bvuma starting their past four recent matches.
Petersen described Mzoughi as a supportive person who is a joy to work with and takes pride in his work.
“Wonderful guy, humble human being, nice guy to sit around and have a coffee with, have a nice chat but when it comes to working, we are working. I think he prides himself in his hard work and he always tells us that he wants his goalkeepers to be the best in the country,” He said during the Nedbank Cup last 32 draw on Thursday.
“He’s very passionate about his work and every day we get reminded of the fact that we are the best. He always backs us, and always believes in us. As a goalkeeper, it’s a difficult position, especially at a team like Chiefs but having someone that’s backing you, and supporting you is amazing.
“He’s a character you know when he’s angry he’s angry but when he’s happy he’s happy, love supporting he loves people you know and joy to work with,” he concluded.
The Glamour Boys were pitted against ABC Motsepe League outfits Free Agents FC in their opening match of the Nedbank Cup with the date, venue and kick-off time to be announced in the near future.
