Ben Youssef: Kaizer Chiefs rely on the fans to lift them

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has urged supporters to stand by the team and give them a boost when they are struggling for results.

Amakhosi secured a 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.

Ben Youssef’s call comes after a tough period for Chiefs, including the suspension of Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi, who was red-carded during a 1-0 defeat to Lamontville Golden Arrows two weeks ago.

Nabi’s absence was felt in the subsequent match, but Chiefs showed resilience in their latest encounter.

The game saw 19-year-old Mfundo Vilakazi come off the bench to score the winning goal in the 86th minute, just 27 minutes after replacing Tebogo Potsane.

The match also saw Sekhukhune United reduced to 10 men in the 84th minute, when Vuyo Letlapa was sent off for a foul on Vilakazi.

“Congratulations to our fans. I hope they forgive us for losing the last game [against Arrows],” said Ben Youssef.

“They [the fans] have to know we need them more when we are in critical situations than when we are in good situations.

“They have to be sure that we’re in the right direction, but we just need patience.”
