The match was evenly contested in the first half, with both teams creating half-chances. However, it was South Africa who emerged victorious in the second half, with substitute Thapelo Morena and Patrick Maswanganyi scoring crucial goals.
Morena, who replaced Elias Mokwana at halftime, broke the deadlock after a well-worked move involving Bathusi Aubaas. The Sundowns winger calmly slotted the ball into the net.
South Africa doubled their lead in the 89th minute. Iqraam Rayners played a clever chip over the Ugandan defense, and Maswanganyi made no mistake, finishing with a composed strike.
With this victory, South Africa now sits atop the group with 11 points from five games. They can secure the top spot with a win against South Sudan in their final group match on Tuesday.
