Cedric Kaze has wasted little time finding his next coaching role after leaving Sekhukhune United, with the former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach appointed head coach of Tanzanian side Kagera Sugar.
The Burundian coach has agreed a contract running until June 2028 and returns to a country he knows well, having previously worked with Young Africans in two spells, including as head coach and later as an assistant to Nasreddine Nabi.
Kaze left Sekhukhune earlier this month after a difficult start to the season, including three successive defeats against Orlando Pirates across the MTN8 and Premiership.
His new challenge is no less demanding. Kagera Sugar have made a poor start to their return to Tanzania’s top flight after securing promotion last season. They have failed to win any of their opening six league matches, drawing twice and losing four times, leaving them 15th with two points.

Kaze replaces Juma Kaseja, the former Tanzania international goalkeeper who guided Kagera back into the Premier League before being dismissed following the club’s winless opening. Kaseja oversaw a side that had recorded only two draws from its first six matches.
Kagera’s return to the top flight had initially promised more after they finished second in the Championship last season, winning 21 of their 28 matches before securing promotion.
Kaze now faces the task of transforming that momentum into top-flight survival, with Kagera’s next league fixture against Mbeya City scheduled for 8 October.
For the coach, it represents a swift return to management and another opportunity to rebuild his reputation after a brief spell at Sekhukhune.
