Kaizer Chiefs Latest News: 'Trying to stay strong was important' - Amakhosi defender reflects on Man-of-the-Match Return

Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons admits it’s been a challenging start to the new Betway Premiership season, having spent time on the bench despite being a key figure in the latter half of last season.

The 28-year-old wing-back, who also began the previous campaign on the sidelines, featured in 16 matches last term and registered one assist.

After waiting patiently for his chance, Solomons finally made his season debut in the CAF Confederation Cup second leg qualifier—delivering a standout performance that earned him the Man-of-the-Match accolade.

Solomons played provider for Chiefs’ only goal of the game as they beat Angolan side Kabuscorp to take the tie to penalties.

Speaking after the game, the former Moroka Swallows wide-man explained that he never lost his confidence and always knew he would be ready to take his chance when it arrived.

“Trying to stay in a good mental state, that was really important,” said Solomons in the Citizen.

“And working on the things I felt I could work on. For me it is always good to speak to the coaches, to find out where you can improve and to work on those things. Also to keep yourself physically good so when the opportunity comes you are ready.”

Solomons is behind Thabiso Monyane and Reeve Frosler in the pecking order at Chiefs but could expect a run in the side after his standout performance.

Amakhosi are next in action against AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday.

“Coming into Saturday’s game for myself it is just about trying to keep our momentum going. Sometimes in the last couple of seasons we have won a few games and then it just dies.

“We don’t want that to happen. We want to be more consistent,” Solomons concluded.
