Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly casting their net wider in their search for attacking reinforcements, with sources revealing that the Soweto giants have expressed interest in Thapelo Matlhoko, a striker currently plying his trade in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with Kruger United.
As confirmed by KickOff, this inquiry suggests that Chiefs are actively formulating a strategy to revamp their frontline in the upcoming transfer window.
The 22-year-old’s performances in the second tier of South African football are understood to have caught the attention of the Chiefs’ scouting network.

According to the article, Matlhoko’s profile is viewed as a good fit for the rebuilding project underway at Naturena, with the club seemingly prioritizing the construction of a new-look striking force for the next season.
“He is one of the strikers they are looking at. They are believed to have enquired about him and they would like to have him as one of their players next season.
The club is still looking at the possibility of signing different strikers to add to the team and Thapelo (Matlhoko) is one of them,” a source close to the developments informed KickOff.com.
As previously reported, the potential arrival of coach Nasreddine Nabi is believed to be a driving force behind this recruitment strategy, with the Tunisian manager reportedly advocating for a blend of experienced campaigners and promising young talents within the squad.
“Yes, there are other experienced players that the club is looking at in the striking department but they are also looking at the young strikers who can play and learn from the senior experienced strikers at the same time.
That’s why they are targeting strikers like Fiston Mayele as well as Thapelo Matlohoko,” the source further added, highlighting a dual approach to bolstering the attack.
While Matlhoko’s current goal tally stands at four goals in 20 appearances for Kruger United, it appears Chiefs are potentially drawn to his overall potential and suitability within a new tactical framework that might be implemented under a new coach.
