Inacio Miguel: Our duty is to bring happiness to Chiefs fans with silverware’

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has expressed the team’s deep commitment to bringing joy to their passionate fanbase by securing silverware.

The 29-year-old, who joined the Chiefs in the off-season from Petro de Luanda, where he won the domestic double, was seen as a crucial addition to strengthen the defense with his experience and leadership. Since arriving, he has been a constant presence in the backline under head coach Nasreddine Nabi, featuring in 24 of the club’s 27 games.

In a recent interview with iDiski Times, Miguel reflected on his eight months with Amakhosi, acknowledging the weight of the responsibility that comes with representing a club of such stature, especially after their disappointing 10th-place finish the previous season.

“Since I arrived, the excitement has just grown,” Miguel shared. “There are challenges we weren’t aware of when I first joined, but honestly, the excitement has only increased. It’s grown because of the potential to do something not only for us as players but for the fans too. They have such a huge influence on how we prepare and perform.”

He emphasized the importance of playing for something greater than just personal success. “It’s not just about playing for us, but for the fans and the Kaizer Chiefs brand. Everywhere we go, we have immense support, and that’s the biggest challenge: to win and bring them the happiness they truly deserve.”

When asked about coach Nabi’s belief that the team’s long-term success hinges on patience and time, the Angola international acknowledged the progress that has been made, even if it hasn’t always been immediately visible.

“I’ve said this many times – nothing new happens overnight,” he explained. “You have to assess the current state of the team, where we were and where we are now. We analyze our games weekly and can see the improvements. There’s still much to be done, but we’re in a good position to accomplish something special soon.”

Miguel added that while both he and the fans want success right away, he understands the realities of the journey. “You have to understand where we are and what we can do right now. But one thing is for sure: we’re pushing to achieve something big, and we’re determined to get there soon.”
