Former Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat has revealed his unfulfilled dream in international football: reaching the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Zimbabwean winger, a key figure in the nation’s recent AFCON 2025 qualification campaign, is determined to break the group stage barrier after two previous unsuccessful attempts.
Billiat, known for his flair and trickery, returned from international retirement mid-qualifiers and played a crucial role in securing Zimbabwe’s place at the Morocco-hosted tournament.
He previously featured at the 2017 and 2019 AFCON editions but failed to guide Zimbabwe beyond the group stage on both occasions.
“Obviously the qualification made us all happy and as a team we are looking forward to the next stage,” Billiat said on the sidelines of Zimbabwe’s PSL Soccer Stars banquet.
“We worked hard for it but I hope we will do better. I have always wanted us to go beyond the groups. Its the dream and to be winners.
“I feel like we have a team which is good enough to fight for wins. The team has all the character needed and I am happy to be back.”
Billiat, who recently capped off a successful domestic season with Yadah FC (13 goals, 11 assists), also received the Fans Player of the Year award and was the second runner-up for the Player of the Season Award.
