Nurkovic to Clash with Chiefs in Carling Cup?

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Royal AM striker Samir Nurkovic’s future remains a mystery following his departure from TS Galaxy prior to the start of the 2024/25 season.

The Serbian was featured in 22 matches for The Rockets and scored eight goals in all competitions.

Initial reports suggested that SuperSport had shelved Nurkovic’s signing following the loan signing of Abubeker Nasir from Mamelodi Sundowns. However, with Bradley Grobler’s long-term injury and Matsantsatsa aiming to compete on all fronts, the club had to continue it search for a striker.

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews was given a boost in his pursuit of the Serbian striker as Sportswire suggest that Nurkovic is making steady progress towards obtaining permanent residency in South Africa. This will allow him to register as a local player, bypassing the need for a work permit.

This potential availability has prompted SuperSport to reconsider their decision and sign him. It remains to be seen if Nurkovic will join the Tshwane side and face his former club in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

As of late, SABC Sport has reported that United are on the brink of signing former Sekhukhune United striker Tashreeq Morris who has also completed medical tests.

The move to sign Morris follows the club’s inability to quickly open up a foreign spot to comply with PSL’s rule which allows each club to register a maximum of five foreign players.

Gavin Hunt looks to be exploring several options to fill Grobler’s gap as Keegan Dolly has reportedly been seen training with the club. Dolly was heavily linked with United before the start of the season, reports were suggesting that he had passed medicals but the club ended up signing former Orlando Pirates’ Vincent Pule.
