Yusuf Maart believes Kaizer Chiefs can end trophy drought

Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart believes his team can end their nine-year trophy drought this season, after a strong start to the 2024/25 Betway Premiership.

The AmaKhosi have struggled in recent seasons, finishing a disappointing 10th last year.

However, under new coach Nasreddine Nabi, there is a sense of optimism, with Chiefs currently sitting in sixth place in the Betway Premiership after three matches.

Despite their improved form, Nabi has cautioned against setting overly high expectations in his first season.

Ahead of the CUFA Cup clash with Marumo Gallants, Maart expressed his belief in the team’s potential to win silverware. “Anything is possible, it will take hard work,” he said. “The way we play, you can see there’s a big improvement.

“As players and coaches, there’s been a change. They’re aggressive with us, and we’re aggressive in return. There’s definitely a possibility of winning something this season.”

Maart highlighted the shift in mindset under Nabi’s leadership, where no player is guaranteed special treatment. “The technical team has a different mentality this season.

“They’re pushing us hard in training, making sure everyone is working to improve and prove themselves,” Maart added.

Chiefs will face Marumo Gallants in the CUFA Cup at Free State Stadium on Sunday at 15h00, with Maart determined to continue their promising form.
