Stellenbosch FC, finalists in the recent MTN8 tournament, have discovered their opponents for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Steve Barker’s team, who fell to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final, has been placed in Group B alongside CD Lunda Sul (Angola), Stade Malien (Mali), and RS Berkane (Morocco).
Lunda Sul is a familiar foe having ousted Sekhukhune United in the preliminary round of the competition. Similarly, RS Berkane recently defeated Orlando Pirates in the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup final.
Steve Barker’s side secured their place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage draw as unseeded participants after a commanding 3-1 aggregate victory over AS Vita Club of Congo and an 8-0 demolition of Nsingizini Hotspurs of Eswatini in the preliminary rounds.
Despite being relative newcomers to the continental stage, the South African side’s impressive domestic form and recent continental exploits have positioned them as potential dark horses in the competition.
