This prestigious competition’s history dates back to 1972 when it was first won by Orlando Pirates, it had been previously known as the BP Top 8 from 1972 to 2002, from 2003 to 2007 it changed to SAA Supa 8 and then it was changed to its current name in 2008.

1st-place team v 8th-placed team
2nd-placed team v 7th-placed team
3rd-placed team v 6th-placed team
4th-placed team v 5th-placed team
The winners of the quarterfinals then square off in two-legged semifinal matches which are played home and away for both teams and then the remaining two teams face off in a one-legged final to determine the winner of the competition.
