Spanish La Liga: Gameweek 23 Preview

Atletico Madrid will look to extend their lead at the top of La Liga when Atleti make the trip to Granada

Last week our La Liga tips were spot on with only one game incorrectly tipped while all the others duly obliged. That means everything is still in favour of log leaders Atletico Madrid despite Barcelona, Real Madrid and Sevilla winning their matches. Atletico are yet to play their game in hand against Levante at the time of writing.

Friday 12 February

Celta Vigo 5/10

Draw 29/10

Elche 58/10

(22:00)

We kick-off this weekend’s matches with a low-key affair as two of the worst teams in the division tackle each other at Abanca Balaidos. Both sides have a winless streak of no less than six matches, with only seven points separating the two outfits. The Sky Blues hold the advantage and a win here will see them 10 points clear off their opponents while Elche will do everything to avoid defeat. Expect a cagey affair here and back Under 2.5 Goals.

Saturday 13 February

Granada 4/1

Draw 47/20

Atletico Madrid 15/20

(15:00)

Los Colchoneros are easily the best team in the Spanish top flight this season, and that too by a whole mile. They are at the top of the table, above the two titans, and have a lead of 10 points. Impressively, they have a game in hand as well. By the looks of things, it’s a foregone conclusion that Diego Simeone’s men are about to deliver a rare title for their fans. But it’s important that they do not take things for granted, despite having a 10-point lead. Their rivals Barca and Real Madrid are capable off pulling a miraculous come-back. Back Atletico Madrid to win this game.

Sevilla 5/10

Draw 29/10

Huesca 54/10

(17:15)

Sevilla are on their way to break the normal top three contenders list in the La Liga. The host are on a four-game winning streak in the campaign following a 3-0 win at home against Getafe last time out. The home team is just a point behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. Huesca pulled off a great fight against outgoing champions Madrid last Sunday where they scored first and ended up losing 2-1. The visitors are still rooted at the foot of the table with just 16 points to their name. Sevilla should make it five wins on the bounce here.

Eibar 21/20

Draw 22/10

Real Valladolid 29/10

(19:30)

Eibar is at the edge of the relegation zone on the table as it stands. They have escaped falling into it because of their superior head-to-head record to their opponents Valladolid. Both sides are equal on points but because Eibar won the first encounter 2-1, it gives them the advantage. This is evidence that avoiding defeat to your direct rivals is important as it can cost you a league title or even a La Liga spot. It’s hard to separate these two teams so back a draw here.

Barcelona 1/3

Draw 44/10

Alaves 7/1

(22:00)

The Catalans are slowly returning to their dominating ways in the Spanish league. They had begun their season on a disastrous note, but as of now they are placed second in the table, even above arch-rivals, Real Madrid. Antoine Griezmann is back to his menacing best, and so is Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba. The team will be adamant to cash in on this form and momentum of seven consecutive wins. Back Barcelona to Win and Both Teams to Score at 7/4.

Sunday 14 February

Getafe 24/10

Draw 2/1

Real Sociedad 13/10

(15:00)

Real Sociedad returned to winning ways when they thrashed Cadiz 4-1 last Sunday and registered their first La Liga win in the new year. Despite their impressive win, the visitors remain sixth on the standings and are still way off the UEFA Champions League qualification zone. Getafe are a completely different team this season. Unlike the last campaign where they were top four contenders, they are now just an ordinary midtable team. Sociedad haven’t been convincing but I’m backing them to make it two wins in a row.

Real Madrid 4/10

Draw 38/10

Valencia 6/1

(17:15)

Real Madrid returns to Alfredo Di Stefano where they lost 2-1 against Levante in the last home game which saw them slid to the third spot. The reigning champions, who scraped a narrow win against Huesca last time out, face a Valencia side that embarrassed them in the first round, thrashing them 4-1 at the Mestalla. Los Che are unbeaten in their last two matches, winning 1-0 to Eibar and drawing with Bilbao. Real Madrid still can’t be trusted against anyone in the division so back Both Teams to Score here at 9/10.

Levante 27/20

Draw 21/10

Osasuna 9/4

(19:30)

Levante were unlucky not to win their previous encounter at home to Granada where they conceded in added time in both halves which saw the match end 2-2 – stretching their unbeaten run to nine matches. Osasuna did enough to clinch maximum points against relegation-threatened Eibar which saw them move away from the red zone for now. It’s hard not to back Levante at the moment, especially against bottom half teams so we will keep backing them until they disappoint.

Villarreal 17/20

Draw 5/2

Real Betis 32/10

(22:00)

Villarreal still have a chance to get top four this season. But winning the rest of the games will be easier said than done. The host have been winless in the last five league matches in the campaign, following a 2-2 draw with bottom side Elche last time out. Real Betis put in a good fight against Barcelona where the Catalans scored in the last minute to win 3-2. Both sides have been finding the back of the net in recent matches while they also have been guilty of shipping in goals at the back which makes Both Teams to Score a certainty in this encounter.

Monday 15 February

Cadiz 51/20

Draw 39/20

Athletic Bilbao 5/4

(22:00)

Athletic Bilbao will be confident ahead of their trip to Cadiz who have been the whipping boys of late. Bilbao dropped points in their last encounter playing a 1-1 draw at home to Valencia meaning they’ve now won six, lost once and drawn once in their last eight matches and the defeat came against Barcelona. The visitors are on form and should be winning such matches.

TREBLE 67/10

Sevilla Win 5/10

Real Sociedad Win 13/10

Athletic Bilbao Win 5/4
