Williams Dominates CAF Awards

Ronwen Williams‘ stellar year was rewarded with a double triumph at the CAF Awards.

The South African shot-stopper was crowned both CAF Goalkeeper of the Year and CAF Inter-Club Player of the Year, solidifying his status as one of Africa’s top talents

His highlights include helping steer South Africa to a bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations and securing their spot in the next AFCON, in Morocco next year.

He also was in between the poles as Sundowns made it to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, alongside a seventh successive Betway Premiership title.

Williams won the award ahead of Cameroon and Manchester United keeper Andre Onana, as well as Nigeria and Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali.

A delighted Williams said in the Citizen: “This is a wonderful moment for me. Thank you to CAF for the recognition, I’m very grateful to you guys.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank my support staff, my family for being there for me throughout my career.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all the coaches that I’ve worked with throughout my career.

“It wasn’t easy, but you guys pushed me to be the player that I am today.

“I know this win will inspire millions of South Africans to believe in themselves, to push boundaries, and never forget your dreams are valid.”
