"We need to adapt to that." - Muhsin Ertugral reflects on Turkey role

Following his spell as a Technical Advisor for Turkey, Cape Town City interim coach Muhsin Ertugral says his football mindset has changed.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates mentor explains that leaving South Africa to take the job in Turkey was a valuable experience, as he had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s best players.

Having spent four years as the technical advisor for the Turkish national football team, Ertugral believes he has grown as a coach and learned the importance of having one-on-one conversations with players.

“Myself, I have changed a lot in terms of how I think about football,” Ertugral was quoted as saying by iDsiki Times.

“I mean, when I left South Africa, obviously the chance for me to be at the highest level, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the best football players in the world — very valuable players, one by one. And I changed as well, my thinking,” he added.

“We need to adapt to that. You suddenly have players who possess unbelievable, tremendous potential. So, for that, it became more of a one-on-one situation where you talk.”

Ertugral was recently named the coach of Cape Town City for the remainder of the season following the departure of Eric Tinkler.

Since being appointed as the City’s coach, Ertugral went on to win his first game for the club beating his former side Chiefs 1-0 in the Betway Premiership.
