FIFA has ruled in favor of Sekhukhune United FC in their dispute with Tunisian club Esperance, ordering the North African side to pay R7.9 million for the transfer of Elias Mokwana.
Documents obtained by FARPost reveal that the payment comprises the original transfer fee of USD 400,000 (approximately R7.5 million) plus a 5% annual penalty interest accruing since August 2, 2024.
Esperance has been given 45 days from the FIFA ruling, notified on December 16, 2024, to pay the full amount to the PSL outfit.
Failure to meet this deadline will result in a transfer ban for Esperance, preventing them from registering new players both domestically and internationally.
“Pursuant to art. 24 of the Regulations, if full payment [including all applicable interest] is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the following consequences shall apply: 1. The Respondent shall be banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, up until the due amount is paid. The maximum duration of the ban shall be of up to three entire and consecutive registration periods,
“2. The present matter shall be submitted, upon request, to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee in the event that full payment (including all applicable interest) is still not made by the end of the three entire and consecutive registration periods,” reads FIFA’s letter to Esperance.
The former Babina Noko winger put pen to paper on a three-year deal in August 2024 with the Tunisian giants ahead of the 2024/25 season, but struggled for regular minutes.
More recently, the Bafana Bafana dangerman has been in fine form for Romanian tactician Laurențiu Reghecampf, as seen by his three goals and one assist from his previous four appearances across all competitions.
