Tshegofatso Mabasa encourages Orlando Pirates to challenge for the league title

Tshegofatso Mabasa has challenged Orlando Pirates to push Mamelodi Sundowns all the way in the race for the Betway Premiership this season.

The Buccaneers secured second spot on the 2023/24 standings in the final weeks of the season, pipping Stellenbosch to a CAF Champions League spot.

This term Pirates, who have already claimed the MTN8 title, are in second place on the league standings with maximum points from their opening three games.

Sundowns, who are seven-time successive league winners are, meanwhile, ahead on goal difference after their three matches of the new season.

Next up for Bucs is a Carling Knockout Cup clash at home to Magesi, ahead of a league tie away to SuperSport United.

Ahead of the weekend’s game, Mabasa called on his teammates to find some more consistency.

He said on IOL: “The biggest things for us are to be consistent and get the results regardless of the performance that we may put out there.

“The most important thing in the league is results. And that’s what we are aiming to do together as a group. Those are the things we’ve got to do for ourselves.

“We’ll continue to work hard towards doing that. The unity between ourselves, and the belief we have in one another, hopefully, will help us to pull through, so that we go all the way.”
