Polokwane’s Molekwane Out To Revive His Career
Tlou Molekwane is hoping to make progress in his career with PSL new boys Polokwane City. ‘Spanner’ has been unfortunate due to lack of game time in the teams he played for since turning professional with the likes Kaizer Chiefs. He had an interview with Sabie Chili about his move to the Limpopo outfit, the team`s chances in the PSL this season and his time at Wits, he also talks about his teammates in the camp.

Spanner, let’s talk about your move to Polokwane City.
Ok. I had preseason with my club Wits and everything was okay. They told me that Polokwane City was interested. They told me that the matter would be discussed between the two clubs. I didn`t hear from them for a while and the season started. It was three games into the season that my agent and I spoke about the matter and the loan agreement was reached. I was left with a one-year contract with an option at Wits. Wits told me that they wanted Polokwane City to return my clearance to them at the end of the season. The agreement was reached on a Monday and I left for Polokwane on Thursday. I joined the team and played my first game on the Sunday against Golden Arrows.
Looking at the team’s players, do you think you guys have a chance of doing well in the 2013/14 season?
The way I see things, our team is balanced in terms of the players we have in every position. The coaches have been trying different combinations. I think the team is doing well.
Tell me about your teammates, who dresses the best and worse.
The competition is tight for the best dresser. I`m also on that list, together with Moffat Mdluli, Mothusi Gopane and Siphesihle Nzimande. We have different tastes though. Some are more formal and others are about swagger. The less said about Vukile Mngqibisa’s dress sense the better. He has become stingy ever since he bought a car last season to the extent that we haven`t seen him buying new clothes for a while. To his credit. Let’s just say he had been saving up for the car, because last month he bought All star takkies and a pair of trousers.
Let`s talk about the crazy characters.
That has to be Sphesihle and Esau Kanyenda. Essau doesn`t know Zulu, but he always acts as if he does. You will find him saying stuff like “Mfethu, kunjani” and “uphuma kuphi”. He’s always in a good mood. But Tshepo Tomanyane is number one when it comes to cracking us up. Every day at training he is on form and even when I`m not in the mood, he will make me loosen up. He’s old and has kids, but the way he’s so funny, you wouldn’t think so. He will be doing some funny stuff at training and when you ask him what he’s doing, he`ll give you a rubbish answer. Vukile is short-tempered and, just like a typical Xhosa, never wants to go down without a fight. I stay with him. Thabo Rakhale – whenever he`s upset, he will go to his room.
And the ladies men in the team?
On that one I can`t make any comment. I don`t want to be the cause of my teammates separation from their partners. But I can talk about me…I don`t love girls, but I love my wife Thabo. I think with Vukile, his car comes to the rescue when it comes to the ladies. Puleng Tlolane and Sifiso Mbhele also deserve a mention. All these guys are in the relegation zone when it comes to chatting up ladies and sweeping them off their feet. In fact, they are in the Mvela League, while you have those that are in La Liga. When you see a beautiful girl walking past, we know she’s for the La Liga guys and when it`s a not-so-good-looking one, we point at the Mvela League guys. Then you have the “Playoffs”…that`s when you go up to a girl and get her number and tell her you will call her, but you are not convinced she is the right one.
Okay let us be serious now, what do you say to skeptics who predict that Polokwane City will end up like Chippa United and be relegated after only one season in the PSL?
People always talk. We believe that we will make it, as long as we are positive and take every game seriously. There is still time and we can still make it. We are doing things the way Polokwane City wants us too, and we have the support of the management and our supporters. We have to compete and be ambitious.
Were you disappointed that you didn`t play at Wits after leaving Chiefs to revive your career?
It was very disappointing. If I recall, I played more games at Chiefs than at Wits. When I went to Wits I expected to play more games than at Chiefs. But that didn`t happen for reasons I do not know. Everything happens for reason. I always stay positive.
